HB2U Card

Here's a look at the card I created for my sister's boyfriend's birthday. I used papers from the Basic Grey Hipster 6 x 6 pad which I love using for more masculine cards.  I also got to use my new Fiskars Hexagon punches I bought at Scrapfest in October.

SCC2 - Week 3 - Day 3

In searching for ways to use this week's colour combination I decided to go back to a lesson from last week where Kristina used perfect pearls. I haven't used this product before and wanted to give it a try. I used my artistic circles stamp from Hero Arts and stamped the image using Versamark Ink on my brown cardstock, then pounced on the various shades of perfect pearls I had selected - two different purples and a blue. I really like the shimmer this gave to the card and will definitely look to use this technique again as it was a lot of fun.

SCC 2 - Week 3 - Day 2

Week 3 of Summer Card Camp 2 from Online Card Classes is here with a new colour combo - 2 shades of brown, 2 shades of purple and a blue. The technique focus for Tuesday was using die cutting on cards. Here is what I came up with for my homework using the new colour combination:

I used a circle die to cut the window from my front panel before running the panel through my Cuttlebug to do the embossing. For stamping, I used versamark ink to stamp the background panel on the blue cardstock to get a tone on tone look. After letting this dry I stamped my sentiment stamp and adhered my stamped elephant image (which I coloured in with two shades of purple Copic markers to help meet the colour challenge). I finished the card off with some purple twine and a few amber and purple gems.

Christmas in the Summer (SCC 2 - Week 2)

I thought with all the time I've been spending making cards for the Summer Card Camp, it would be a good idea to get an early start on some Christmas cards. I didn't use any of this week's sketches for this one, but wanted to challenge myself to stick with the colour combination of blue, green, cream and brown and make a card without any traditional Christmas red. Here is my completed card.

In making this card, I also used the technique of masking my stamp which Jennifer used in the first week of class. I didn't end up using the technique in any of last week's cards so am glad I got the chance to use it this week. By taping off sections of the stamp and applying different ink colours I was able to achieve the tree in the stamped image on the card. I finished off the tree by applying some glitter glue to the blue part of the tree for a bit of sparkle.

I'm heading out of town for a long weekend so glad I was able to get 4 cards done throughout the week as I won't have any time for crafty play this weekend. Will be looking forward to the new colour and sketch reveal and more great techniques from the teachers when I get back.

SCC2 Week 2 - Day 2

Two cards done in one evening - a record for me!

As card camp goes on and I have a few more cards under my belt, I'm finding my cards are coming together a bit faster than before. Last night I actually managed to complete two cards. I'm in awe of those who are creating multiple cards in such short amounts of time, but for myself I'm pretty happy with my progress so far.

The technique of focus yesterday was heat embossing which I had not done before. I got a bit more inky than I'm used to making this card, but it was a lot of fun.

I heat embossed all of the circle stamping and then applied two different distress inks using an ink blending tool. Not all my versamark stamping was perfectly lined up with my original stamping so you see the resist effect with the white showing through in a few areas, in particular the end of the sentiment, but I kind of liked the rough look for this card so the imperfections didn't really bother me.

I had masculine cards in mind when I saw the colour combination for this week so my second card was also a "Dad" inspired card. I love my washi tape collection so am happy any time I get to use it.

For the lettering, I inked up some white sticker letters I had so I was able to end up with coloured sticker letters that matched with my overall card colours.

SCC 2 - Week 2 - Day 1

The first day of week 2 of Summer Card Camp brought a new colour combination and three new sketches. I really like the colours for this week - a cream, light blue, 2 shades of green and brown. I've got some masculine cards in mind, but the circle card Kristina made and the patterned papers I found made me think of a homey vintage feel. I've also been planning to make a card for my sister who recently purchased her first home. Here is the card I came up with.

SCC 2 - More from Week 1

I managed to get 2 more cards completed throughout Week 1, making use of the other 2 sketches.

On Wednesday, I was inspired by guest artist Laura Bassen who raided her scrap stash to create some stitched banners to meet the colour requirements. I found some scraps in my own stash that suited the colour combo and I made this the right hand border of my card.

On Thursday, Christina issued a 10-minute card challenge. I haven't tried that one yet - a little intimidating given how new I am to this. I've got some vacation coming up so hope to come back to this challenge when I have a little more time to plan.

I finished the week off on Friday with this card, where I tried to play a little bit with some embossing, inking on washi tape and some light inking on the embossing.

TIP: I fussy cut the sun image, but I'm not the best at fussy cutting so to give me a start, I used a hole punch to punch in between each of the rays then just finished off with cutting around the points. I think it turned out OK and saved me some time and frustration.
